Sons of a desert dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee’s trashy Western tale.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased online or in person at Paradigm Coffee & Music at 1202 North 8th Street during regular business hours.

Comedy ‘True West’ Auditions Dec 4

Director Jay Johnson has announced auditions for Studio Players’ second show of the season, the Sam Shepard comedy True West. Auditions for all roles will be held on December 4 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Horace Mann Middle School. For more information, please contact studioplayers@outlook.com.

The Plot: Sons of a desert dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee’s trashy Western tale.

The Roles:

Austin (20s-30s) is a straight-laced, ambitious screenwriter eager to sell his period drama to a big Hollywood producer and burdened by the presence of his brother, Lee.

Lee (20s-30s) is a charming drunk, a thief, prone to acts of violence, and generally combative in most situations.

Saul Kimmer (40s-50s) is a Hollywood producer who believes in Austin’s talent but is charmed by Lee’s big ideas.

Mom (50s-60s) is (appropriately) Austin and Lee’s mother, who makes a brief appearance late in the play to shed some light on the world from which these two very different siblings sprang.

He has a lifetime of experience performing in church skits and a talent for puppeteering. He not only narrates the zany comedy as Alex More, but he also embodies a half dozen other characters in this one man satire.

Buyer & Cellar tells the story of a fictional character working in the very real shopping mall-like basement of the original Funny Girl superstar. The comedy is the second show of Studio Players’ fourth season, which runs March 10-12, 2016. Tickets are available now on www.paradigmannex.ticketleap.com.

Studio Players is Creepy, Sexy, Funny & Smart in its 4th Season

Season4_WebBanner

Studio Players, in cooperation with Sheboygan Theatre Company, is proud to announce its 4th Season, to be performed at the Paradigm Annex from Fall 2015 through Spring 2016.

The 4th Season kicks off with Studio Players’ first foray into musical theater with The Rocky Horror Show, music, lyrics and book by Richard O’Brien. Brad and Janet come upon the home of the sweet transvestite, Frank ‘n’ Furter, and his gang of misfits. This kitschy rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi gothic is perfect for the Halloween season, and Studio Players will celebrate with a special midnight performance on October 31. The rest of the performances will run October 29-31, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

In Jonathan Tolins’ deliciously funny send up of a pop icon, Buyer & Cellar takes a real setting (the boutique-style basement of Barbra Streisand’s California estate) and imagines what it would be like to be the shop keeper of Ms. Streisand’s mini mall. One actor takes on seven roles in this fast-paced and witty one-act play. Performances are January 28-30, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

Finally, Studio Players takes our audience on a time-bending adventure in The Curious Case Of The Watson Intelligence, by Madeleine George. The titular “Watson” refers to Sherlock’s right hand man, Alexander Graham Bell’s assistant, the super-computer/Jeopardy! champion, and a regular IT worker trying to make sense of life and love in the modern day. A small cast embodies many -roles as the play jumps back and forth in time and space. Performances are March 17-19, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for shows will be available for purchase online and in person at Paradigm Coffee & Music a few weeks prior to each show. Audition information for each production will be found on www.StudioPlayers.net. Find Studio Players on Facebook and follow @StudioPlayersWI on Twitter for updates as they happen. If you have any questions or would like to get involved with Studio Players, please contact studioplayers@outlook.com.

Studio Players’ final show of their third season is Yankee Tavern by Steven Dietz, directed by Shari Roehl and starring Rusty Mehlberg, Katy Ries, Randy Stache & Daniel Hennell. Shows run April 9-11, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paradigm Annex. Tickets are available through TicketLeap.

Just when you thought you’d heard every crazy 9/11 conspiracy theory, a stranger walks into the Yankee Tavern. There, inside the walls of this crumbling New York tavern, a young couple finds themselves caught up in what might be the biggest conspiracy of all. Steven Dietz’s acclaimed and already widely produced dramatic thriller—a selection of the National New Play Network’s Continued Life Project—is a fierce, funny and ultimately mind-bending work of theatrical power that grips you until the final word. What you don’t know can hurt you.
